The victory of Jesus Christ over human challenges and limitations at his passion, death, resurrection, and ascension is a source of inspiration to the call to surrender to the Lord in perpetual service in Religious Life, Bishop António Manuel Bogaio Constantino has said.

In his homily during the Final Vows of Sr. Dorcas Kawandi of the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Victory (FSLV), the Auxiliary Bishop of Mozambique’s Catholic Archdiocese of Beira said that Religious Life is a call to shine the “light of Christ” for others.

“Religious Life is a sign of victory; victory over fear, difficulty, and uncertainty,” Bishop Bogaio said during the March 2 Eucharistic celebration that was held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish of Beira Archdiocese.

When you embrace Religious Life, he said, “you must bring the light of Christ to those most in need. Not your own light, but the light of Christ, which is incarnated in the charism of your Consecration.”

For the followers of Christ in Consecrated Life, “death has been swallowed up in victory, and you are called to live and represent Christ in this victory,” the Mozambican Catholic Bishop said.

Accepting Consecrated Life demands surrender to God’s will, Bishop Bogaio said, and cautioning against holding back in the commitment to God’s call added, “Woe to you if you still have any reservations. You will not move forward.”

“When you give yourself entirely to the Lord, He, in His providence, will also bless you,” the 55-year-old Mozambican Catholic Bishop said on March 2 while presiding over Holy Mass for the Perpetual Profession of Sr. Dorcas of FSLV.

The Mozambican member of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus (MCCJ) expressed his awareness of the challenges that are part of Consecrated life, and told Sr. Dorcas, “Today is a day of joy, but Religious Life also comes with struggles. There will be days when you will ask, ‘Why did I consecrate myself?’ But remember Christ’s victory. He is with you.”

“Our life is a life of uncertainties, of fear as well; we are human; we get afraid, but the victory of Christ is what gives us confidence. You belong to Him, only to Him; your work will not be in vain,” Bishop Bogaio told Sr. Dorcas.

He went on to encourage her to rely on God’s grace, and added, “Your Consecration is not about outward appearance, but about the fruits of your love, service, and self-giving to God. If you are a good tree, you will bear good fruit; if you’re a thorny tree, you’ll be felt by those around you.”

“Fully embrace this charism today, becoming a living witness to Christ’s victory over evil and over life itself,” Bishop Bogaio told the Franciscan Sister.
