Windhoek, 05 May, 2021 / 7:30 pm (ACI Africa).
The Namibian Catholic Nun who served as Secretary General of her country’s Catholic Bishops' Conference (NCBC) for a month is being eulogized as a humble and dedicated servant leader, faithful to her service of the Church.
“The IMBISA Secretariat, having received notification from the Namibian Catholic Bishops' Conference, wishes to inform of the passing away of Sr. Helena Mwapiti Amwaandangi MSC, the Secretary General of the Namibian Catholic Bishops' Conference,” the leadership of the Inter-Regional Meeting of the Bishops of Southern Africa (IMBISA) announced Tuesday, May 4 in a statement.
The 64-year-old member of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC) “succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday, 2 May 2021 at the Catholic Church Hospital in Windhoek,” the leadership of IMBISA adds.
In the statement, IMBISA leadership notes that “Sr. Helena had just begun, in March 2021, this important ministry as Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference. She succeeded Fr. Linus Ngenomesho, OMI, who had been appointed Administrator of the Vicariate of Rundu.”
“The IMBISA Secretariat accordingly prays for the repose of her soul and at the same time implores God's consolation upon all who mourn her death,” IMBISA leadership adds in the statement also published on its website.
