Namibian Nun with One-month Service at Bishops’ Conference Eulogized as Humble, Dedicated

Speaking to Radio Veritas South Africa, Fr. Ngenomesho eulogized the late Nun as “a very dedicated person, very committed, (and) easy to work with.”

“She stayed in hospital for close to three weeks in the ICU and we were all hoping that she was going to survive but unfortunately she did not make it,” the Namibian Cleric told Radio Veritas’ Catholic View Tuesday, May 4.

“It is a big loss to the Church; it is a big loss to our conference. We feel deeply sad about the passing on of her. We pray and hope the risen Lord will help us go through this,” he added.

A native of Oshikuku town that is within Namibia’s Archdiocese of Windhoek, late Sr. Mwapiti was the first Namibian member of the MSC to serve as the Provincial Superior of her Congregation in the Province Namibia.

She had also served as Coordinator of the Pastoral Council of the Archdiocese of Windhoek, General Councilor of MSC, Congregational Councilor in Sutri, Rome, and Novice Directress of MSC Formation House in Otjiwarongo in Namibia, among other services.

Sr. Daisy Lisania who worked closely with the late Nun has eulogized her as joyful, humble and compassionate.

“Adios! My dear joyful MSC Sister from Namibia. I will always hold your memories of the talks we had. You truly epitomized the spirituality of the Sacred Heart of Jesus living out the virtues of humility, compassion, kindness and more,” the member of MSC says in a Facebook post.

“Pray for us from that heavenly throne close to the Lord of life. Requiescat In Pace Sorella Helena Mwapiti Amwaandangi MSC,” she added.

A section of Namibians who had interacted with Sr. Mwapiti took to social media to express their affection and gratitude to the late Nun.

“RIP dear Sister. We remember your lovely hardworking attitude and big heart towards everyone. May the Angels of God bring you to the one you consecrated your entire life,” Theresia Mushaandja says in a Facebook post in memory of Sr. Mwapiti.

Fr Linkens writes, “A Missionary Sister who knows how to pray, knows also how to live well, how to work and how to die.”

He adds, “Really sad that you left us so quickly. But now you are with Him, whom you faithfully served for so long. And we bow to His plans.”

“Heaven gained an angel. Death has robbed us of a very expensive jewel. Unto her soul grant eternal life O Lord, let perpetual light shine on her and may her soul rest in eternal peace. Gone too soon beloved Sister,” Beatrix Ndahalele says in her post.

Late Sr. Mwapiti is expected to be laid to rest Saturday, May 8.
