Assisting victims of human trafficking and the raising of awareness about the vice are among the top priorities of Talitha Kum South Africa, the newly launched Southern African branch of the International Network of Consecrated Life Against Trafficking in Persons, an official of the entity has said in an interview.
Talitha Kum South Africa was officially launched Saturday, April 9 in a program on Radio Veritas that was spearheaded by representatives of the Leadership Conference of Consecrated Life in Southern Africa (LCCL SA).
In the Monday, April 11 interview with ACI Africa, the Coordinator of Talitha Kum South Africa (SA) said institutions of learning would be one of the primary venues where the raising of awareness about human trafficking would take place.
“The aim of the ministry is to take care of those victims of human trafficking; that is number one. Number two, is to raise awareness about human trafficking because most of our young people, women and more especially young girls are prone to human trafficking”, Sr. Juliet Moliehi Khasoane said.
The member of the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (RGS) added that the new ministry would also prioritize those targeted by human traffickers.
