Members of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) are reaching out to the faithful and well-wishers in the Southern African nation to “generously” support the formation of Diocesan Major Seminarians.
In a statement signed by the ECM Secretary General, Fr. Henry Saindi, Catholic Bishops in Malwi say they believe that all Christians have a role to play in the formation of the future agents of evangelization.
“We are therefore being asked to give generously bearing in mind the financial challenges faced by our Seminaries,” ECM members say in the statement that is expected to be read across all Catholic Churches in Malawi on the occasion of the National Seminary Day and National Seminary Fund observed on the Solemnity of Pentecost.
In the statement, the Catholic Bishops say observing the National Seminary Day on Pentecost Sunday is significant because “it was on Pentecost Sunday, fifty days after Easter Sunday, that the Holy Spirit descended with power and dwelt in the Apostles and their followers, thus began the mission of the Church in the world.”
“The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of courage and zeal for God. Therefore, let us show our zeal for God by offering our best towards the support of our major seminaries,” ECM members say about the annual fundraising initiative that they established on Pentecost Sunday in 2017.
