Pope Francis has appointed two Bishops who have been serving as Auxiliary Bishops of Kinshasa Archdiocese in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as Local Ordinaries.
In the latest administrative changes published June 11 by the Holy See Press Office, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Vincent Tshomba Shamba Kotsho and Bishop Jean-Crispin Kimbeni Ki Kanda as Local Ordinaries for Tshumbe Diocese, and Kisantu Diocese respectively.
Bishop Tshomba is set to succeed Bishop Nicolas Djomo Lola who will turn 78 next month, and whose retirement has been accepted by Pope Francis.
A member of the Clergy of Kinshasa Archdiocese, Bishop Tshomba was ordained a Priest in 1990, and served in various capacities in the Archdiocese of Kinshasa, including Parish Priest, Parish Vicar, Diocesan Chaplain of Justice and Peace, and member of the Presbyterial council, among other responsibilities.
The Congolese Bishop was appointed auxiliary Bishop of Kinshasa in June 2020. He is to shepherd the people of God in Tshumbe Diocese that started as an Apostolic Vicariate in March 1947, before it was elevated to the rank of a Diocese on 10 November 1959.
