Members of the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum (KCPF) have urged the electorate in Kenya to take part in the Tuesday, August 9 elections, and to be prepared to accept the fact that the political candidates they vote for can win or lose.

In a statement issued on the eve of the election, the Christian Professionals say, "In a few hours, we will head to the ballot to exercise the civic right to vote. We urge you to turn out in numbers, to vote for your candidate of choice, hoping to win and ready to lose."

In the statement signed by their Chairman, Charles Kanjama, KCPF members add, "If the election results favor you, celebrate graciously; if not accept and move on."

The Christian Professionals call on Kenyans to remain peaceful during the electioneering period, saying, "No one should lose their joy, prosperity or life as a result of elections."

"Election is a process and voting is just part of it; citizens should play their part then step aside and allow the process to continue," they say.

Addressing themselves to political candidates in the East African nation, KCPF members say, "Every contest must produce a winner and a loser."

"We urge you to be gracious winners and losers," say members of the entity that brings together professionals from various Christian denominations in Kenya.

They say that though political candidates in Kenya have put a lot of effort and resources into the campaigns that concluded on August 6, those who do not get the results they expected need to "accept and move on".

"Let the peace and prosperity of this nation be bigger than your win,” they say, and citing a section of Kenya’s National Anthem, add, “May we all dwell in unity, peace and liberty."

The electorate in Kenya is to vote for the country’s President, Governors, Senators, Women representatives, Members of Parliament (MPs), and Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) on August 9.
