Addis Ababa, 10 August, 2022 / 9:30 pm (ACI Africa).
Members of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Ethiopia (CBCE) have lauded the role of their counterparts in Kenya, the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), in the country’s general elections conducted on Tuesday, August 9.
In a statement shared with ACI Africa on the day of the elections, CBCE members say that the Catholic Church leaders in Kenya have so far demonstrated worthy leadership by instilling good values among the public during the period leading to polls.
“We appreciate what the KCCB has been doing until now by making statements to create public conscience and awareness on the election and its procedures and in appealing for a peaceful, free, fair and democratic election,” Catholic Bishops in Ethiopia say in the statement signed by their president, Berhaneyesus Demerew Cardinal Souraphiel.
The members of CBCE express their solidarity with the Bishops in Kenya, saying, “We, the Catholic Bishops, Clergy, Religious men and women, are united in prayer with our brothers and sisters in Kenya as Kenya is holding a national election… Be assured of our continuous prayers for a peaceful election.”
“May God Bless Kenya and its people and May God bless Ethiopia and its people,” CBCE members further say in their statement.
