Pope Francis has appointed the Manager of Income Generating Activities (IGAs) in Zambia’s Chipata Diocese as Auxiliary Bishop of the same Episcopal See.
The appointment of Mons. Gabriel Msipu Phiri who has been assigned the Titular See of Are of Mauritania was published by the Holy See Press Office on Saturday, December 10 and announced by members of the Zambia Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCCB).
Born in July 1964 in the Diocese of Chipata, the alumnus of St. Augustine's Major Seminary in Mpima, Kabwe, and St. Dominic's Major Seminary in Lusaka where he had his initial Priestly formation in philosophy and theology respectively was ordained a Priest for his native Diocese in September 1991.
As a Priest, Mons. Msipu has served in various capacities including Assistant and Parish Priest, Dean, Diocesan Treasurer General and Human Resources Officer, Vicar General, and ZCCB Finance and Administration Manager among other Priestly ministries.
Following years of ministry in the Zambian Diocese, Mons. Msipu was enrolled for Spirituality and Spiritual Direction at the Institute for Spiritual Leadership at Chicago, USA in 2001, and graduated a year later with a Certificate.
