Popemobile for Madagascar to be Officially Unveiled Friday

Popemobile, the vehicle, which Pope Francis will use during his three-day pastoral visit of Madagascar will be officially unveiled in the capital Antananarivo on Friday, August 30, a press release has indicated.

The vehicle will be availed at the Apostolic Nunciature in Madagascar’s capital Antananario, at Ivandry, according to the press release dated August 28.

The Apostolic Nunciature and the Episcopal Conference of Madagascar have jointly organized a press conference to announce the official unveiling of the Popemobile.

The Holy Father will arrive in Madagascar Friday, September 6 from Mozambique’s capital, Maputo.

The Popemobile the Pontiff will use in Maputo has been shipped from Kenya’s capital, Nairobi through Mombasa port, sources disclosed to ACI Africa.

Explaining the technical state of the Popemobile, the Apostolic Nuncio in Kenya toldACI Africa that the vehicle “must be relatively high so everyone can see the Holy Father when touring through the streets of the city. It should be stable, sturdy and fast in case of an emergency … (It) needs to have the necessary protection against wind and rain.”

Pope Francis will conclude his fourth African pastoral visit with Mauritius, where he will arrive and leave the same day, September 9.
