Militants continue to wreak havoc in communities served by the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi in Nigeria, with those behind the attacks destroying food reserves in villages.

In a report shared with ACI Africa, Bishop Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi describes the destruction of farm produce in villages as a tactic to starve innocent villagers.

The report shared with ACI Africa on Thursday, February 23 details killings, displacements, and destruction by those who have been referred to as “unknown gunmen” in parts of Nigeria’s Benue State.

Pictures of the destruction of property and food stored by villagers are attached to the report by Bishop Chikpa, who says, “Once again we bring you updates on killings and displacements of villagers in the diocese of Makurdi and other areas in Benue State.”

“There is a deliberate attempt to attack the food sources of the populations so that those not killed by bullets and machetes could be starved to death,” the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, a member of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Claretians – CMF) says.
