South Sudanese Catholic Diocese Lauded for “standing with our people” in Service Delivery

A government official in South Sudan has lauded the country’s Catholic Diocese of Wau for “standing with our people” through service delivery. 

In a Wednesday, May 10 interview with Voice of Hope (VoH) Radio, the Governor of South Sudan’s Western Bahr El Ghazal State said, “I would like to acknowledge the role played by the Catholic Diocese of Wau in supporting our local communities through provision of social services.”

Officials of Wau Diocese, Sarah Cleto Rial said, “are standing with our people” through the delivery of “services such as health, education which are very important for the people”.

“As a government, we will continue to work alongside the Church to make sure our people are supported with essential services whenever necessary,” Governor Cleto continued.

He further said, “Churches have remained one of the important institutions that advocate for the well-being of our people within the communities.”

On March 23, the Catholic Diocese of Wau partnered with Juba University’s School of Medicine to conduct an eye care campaign in the country’s Western Bahr el Ghazal State targeting more than 200 patients with cataracts. 

In a March 23 message shared with ACI Africa, the Health Coordinator of Wau Diocese, Dr. Jurel Payii Mamur, said that the examination, which brought on board eight specialized doctors, covered the entire South Sudanese Diocese for a period of 10 days.

In the May 10 interview with VoH Radio, Governor Cleto thanked the Catholic Diocese of Wau for supporting over two hundred people during the eye-care campaign. 

The South Sudanese Governor prayed that God gives strength to the Catholic Diocese of Wau to continue with its program of supporting “our people not only within Wau but other remote places.”
