Prayers are being sought for “God’s healing and protection” for Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe who is undergoing treatment in Rome.

In his homily during a pastoral visit to Yei Diocese, the Auxiliary Bishop of South Sudan’s Juba Archdiocese, invited the people of God to pray for the quick recovery of the Bishop emeritus of the South Sudanese Diocese and his safe return back to the country.

“All of us should continue with prayers for God’s healing and protection upon our emeritus Bishop who is currently abroad,” Bishop Santo Loku Pio Doggale said during the May 14 homily.

Bishop Loku added, “Continue to pray for Bishop emeritus. He is struggling with a sickness on the leg; he is in Rome where he had a minor operation.”

“We should pray that he comes back safely to be with us in South Sudan to continue with the mission of God because he is our grandfather,” the South Sudanese Auxiliary Bishop further said, adding, “It’s through our prayers that God may protect and keep him throughout the period of medication.”

The 53-year-old the Auxiliary Bishop of Juba Archdiocese lauded the 80-year-old Catholic Bishop who was at the helm of the Yei Diocese from November 1986 until his retirement in February 2022 for his selfless service to the people of God in South Sudan.

“Despite his medical problem, the Bishop has been active in serving the people in his Episcopal See,” the Auxiliary Bishop of Juba said.

Bishop Loku went on to underscore the need for the people of God in Yei Diocese to foster love in the Diocese in order to move the mission of God forward.

“As we pray for Bishop Tombe, we should show love and unity among ourselves and the Priests in the Diocese,” the South Sudanese Catholic Bishop said.

Bishop Tombe who is undergoing treatment in Rome was ordained a Priest in May 1970. He was appointed Bishop of Yei Diocese in March 1986, and was succeeded by Bishop Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo following his Episcopal Consecration in May last year.
