Members of the Legion of Mary globally have been urged to intensify prayers for the canonization of Venerable Edel Quinn who pioneered the lay apostolic association of Catholics that is rooted in Marian spirituality in East and Central Africa.
Speaking to ACI Africa on the sidelines of a Eucharistic Celebration to mark the 79th death anniversary of Venerable Edel Quinn at St. Mary’s Msongari School grounds in Nairobi, Dr. Mutuma Geoffrey who chaired the organizing committee that planned for the May 13 event also urged Legionaries to live by the example of the Irish-born Venerable.

“My call to all the legionaries across the world is that let us join our hands together and pray for Edel Quinn and for the Church to recognize her to be declared a Saint in heaven because she has done great work,” Dr. Mutuma told ACI Africa.
A native of Kanturk, Co. Cork in Ireland, Venerable Edel Quinn was appointed Legion of Mary Envoy to East Africa in 1936, and mandated to oversee the establishment of the association in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Mauritius.
