Pope Francis has appointed the Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development (DPIHD) as his envoy to the 140th anniversary of evangelization in the Republic of Congo (Congo Brazzaville).
The appointment of the Vatican-based Michael Cardinal Czerny to represent the Holy Father at the June 4 Holy Mass to mark the conclusion of the year-long celebrations in the Central African nation was announced by the Holy See Press Office on Monday, May 29.
The Holy Mass is expected to take place at the Marian Square of the Sacred Heart Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Brazzaville.
As part of the centenary celebrations, the Catholic Church in Congo Brazzaville has had a number of events, including a conference on the theme, "Education and Evangelization in Congo: Assessment, Challenges and Perspectives" that was held on April 22.
On May 21, six Religious Priests and four Diocesan Deacons were ordained at a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Archbishop Miguel Angel Olaveri of Pointe-Noire.
