Mons. Martín Lasarte Topolansky has described his Episcopal appointment for Lwena Diocese in Angola that was made public on July 1 as a humbling experience.
The Uruguayan-born member of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) who was speaking to Radio Ecclesia Angola said, “I feel very small, but as Our Lady said, I am the handmaid of the Lord, may the Lord make my life an instrument” of His service.
“Despite being small, very small, I am available for the very large ministry of the successors of the apostles,” Mons. Lasarte said during the July 1 interview.
He went on to highlight his humbling experience saying, “Small in the immense Diocese Lwena that am called shepherd, small with the cultural richness that extends from the Tchkwe, Luvale peoples, small in the face of the many pastoral challenges that we are going to encounter, small also like my predecessor who did so much.”
“We will do what the Lord inspires us,” Mons. Lasarte said, and making reference to members of the Bishops' Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe (CEAST), added, “We will do our best, to contribute, to work together for this beautiful Church of Angola.”
