Vatican City, 03 March, 2020 / 11:30 pm (ACI Africa).
Pope Francis was reportedly tested for the novel coronavirus, Covid-19, with negative results, an Italian newspaper said Tuesday.
Last week, the pope began to show symptoms of a cold. “His doctors immediately intervened to check the case. Of course, he was also swabbed to see if it was coronavirus but fortunately the outcome was negative,” Vatican journalist Franca Giansoldati reported in Il Messaggero March 3.
The Holy See issued a statement Tuesday evening indicating that Pope Francis has a “common cold,” and that he does not have “symptoms caused by other diseases.”
“Pope Francis celebrated daily Mass and follows the spiritual exercises that are taking place at the Casa Divin Maestro in Ariccia,” the Holy See’s press office added.
Starting Feb. 27, Francis canceled his larger audiences in favor of working from the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta guesthouse, where he lives.
