Pope Francis has appointed a new Bishop for Nigeria’s Catholic Diocese of Zaria and a second Auxiliary Bishop for Maputo Archdiocese in Mozambique.
The appointment of Mons. Habila Tyiakwonaboi Daboh and Mons. Osório Citora Afonso for the Nigerian and Mozambican Episcopal Sees, respectively, was published by the Holy See Press Office on Thursday, September 21.
Born in June 1970, Mons. Daboh was ordained a Priest for Nigeria’s Kaduna Archdiocese in July 1999.
The Nigerian Bishop-elect, who holds a Licentiate in Church History from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome has, until his Episcopal appointment, been serving as the Rector of the Good Shepherd Major Seminary in Kaduna Archdiocese.
The alumnus of St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Makurdi and St. Augustine's Major Seminary in Jos is to become the Local Ordinary of the Catholic Diocese of Zaria that has been vacant since July 2022 following the passing on of Bishop Geoge Jonathan Dodo after a short illness.
