The Catholic Diocese of Yola in Nigeria is constructing a Chapel at the Yolde Pate Correctional Center to provide a place of worship and solace to inmates.
Speaking during the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the Chapel on Tuesday, December 5, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza of Yola expressed optimism that the facility will help restore the faith of the inmates.
“This initiative is aimed at providing a place of worship and solace for the inmates, offering them spiritual support and guidance as they serve their sentences,” Bishop Mamza said.
The Nigerian Catholic Bishop added, “The construction of the Chapel represents an act of compassion and faith, demonstrating our commitment to the rehabilitation and spiritual well-being of those who have been incarcerated.”
He explained that many of the inmates at the correctional facility come from marginalized and disadvantaged backgrounds, and that their stay at the facility compounds their isolation.
