Prelates in East Africa Express Caution about Coronavirus in Africa

With the rising concerns of an imminent spread of COVID-19 against the backdrop of the first case in Africa reported in Nigeria, Bishops in the East African countries of Kenya and Uganda have, in independent messages and contexts, expressed their concerns about the virus and called on relevant government agencies to take special health measures.

Jesuits in Africa “deeply concerned about violence” in Cameroon, Want “inclusive dialogue”

Members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in Africa have, in a statement, expressed their concerns about the violence and loss of innocent lives in the Central African nation of Cameroon and proposed “inclusive dialogue involving Anglophone separatists” as the only appropriate solution to the protracted crisis.

The President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia, Berhaneyesus Cardinal Souraphel and the members of the delegation he was leading spent a night at Eritrea’s Asmara airport Saturday, February 22 and returned home after they were denied entry into Eritrea, the Bishops’ Secretariat has confirmed in a statement.
