An Archbishop in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has welcomed the ratification of the framework agreement between the Holy See and his country that took place at the Vatican last week saying the initiative represents a new dawn of engagements “between the Catholic Church and the state.”

Since October 24, the Holy See, the Vatican-based jurisdiction of the worldwide Catholicism under the Holy Father made it known to the Kenyan Government that it will not be participating in the commemoration of 25 years since the last International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) took place, a three-day event dubbed ICPD25 slated to take place in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi from November 12.

The appointment of the Apostolic Nuncio in Malawi and Zambia to represent the Vatican at the free trade area consisting twenty-one member states within Eastern and Southern Africa has been interpreted as the Holy See’s commitment to the affairs of the African continent, the Nuncio, Archbishop Gianfranco Gallone has explained.
