On the day set aside for the celebration of the gift of various vocations in Mauritius (feast of vocations) marked on Sunday, August 2, the head of the Catholic Church in the Indian Ocean island nation likened followers of Jesus Christ including Priests, Religious and Laity to musicians who have answered the call to dance to the music of the Gospel, advocating for a collaborative ministry akin to that of an orchestra.

St. Mary’s Modeco, one of the parishes in Tanzania’s Catholic diocese of Morogoro was closed early this week following an incident of desecration during the early hours of Monday, April 27, and Mass is being celebrated at the parish hall, Priests ministering at the parish have told ACI Africa.

Kenya’s Oldest Missionary Order Commissions First Lay Associates

The first Catholic missionaries to evangelize the East African nation of Kenya, the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans), Saturday, February 29 commissioned the first Kenyan lay associates after years of orientation, with those behind the initiative expressing the hope that the new members will help foster the charism of their 317-year-old worldwide religious order among their various relations.

In Ethiopia: Couples Evangelized, Women Empowered, Youth Exposed Despite Limited Funding

With 5,000 Euros a year, a religious missionary ministering among Ethiopia’s Borana community has been able to have an impactful apostolate that has included giving dozens of youth the opportunity to interact with peers from other cultures in inter-diocesan pastoral programs, evangelizing couples through the Sacrament of Matrimony, empowering women to become teachers of faith, among other activities that have kept faith alive in the Horn of Africa.
