Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), also called Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, are reaching out to vulnerable children in the West African nation of Benin by offering art classes to street children and sheltering former slaves to help reintegrate them in the Beninese society.

US$1 Million Award to “improve lives, renew hope of most vulnerable” in DR Congo: Nun

The winner of this year’s Opus Prize worth US$1 million, Sr. Catherine Mutindi Kivutui, has returned to her ministry in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where she oversees the running of Bon Pasteur (Good Shepherd) Kolwezi, the apostolate she founded in 2012 in Lualaba Province, south of DRC with the objective of ending child labor.

Some five months after Pope Francis issued his Apostolic Letter “Vos Estis Lux Mundi” (You are the light of the world) in which the Holy Father introduced norms regarding sexual abuse, Catholic Bishops in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) have launched a series of trainings targeting pastoral agents in view of ensuring the protection of minors and vulnerable persons in the various structures of the local Church.
